The Bingo caller
He sits upon the stage,
Like a King upon a throne,
Calling out the numbers'
for he is never alone,
A shout goes out,
A line is called,
The numbers checked,
There's no time to be bored,
The faces show such concentration,
As silence from the player's is a must,
Just call out my numbers,
Before my card is bust,
They sit there with a dibber,
Crossing out one number at a time,
Until the card is empty,
This let it be mine.
The EmpireTheatre, Wisbech, Cambs
It was built in the 1920's,
The style of Art Decco design,
Just step back to look at this building,
Travel back in time,
Decorated in pale madarin and purple,
Highlights picked out in gold,
In the days before colour movies,
Such stories could be told,
It was built to match the Empire State,
The influence you can plainly see,
The projection room is high above,
Where the projectors used to be,
Spotlights and their brackets,
Help to light up the stage,
So that actors could strut their stuff,
When live plays were all the rage,
The theatre seats have disappeared,
New carpet now covers the floor,
People now play Bingo,
To try and win some more,
There's a snack and licensed bar,
To refresh you while you play,
From 6pm until late,
You can play most every day,
Or you can sit as I did,
Take in that timeless view,
Because such a splendid attraction,
Is part of our Heritage too.
